Steve is an ambitious individual who plans, develops, and implements large scale projects that benefit the entire school community. At this school, Steve’s projects and responsibilities include: creating Google a server, iPad initiatives with teachers and students, creation of a grade database for all student grades, development of our school website, a Kindle pilot, upgrading instructional technology at the classroom level, upgrading teacher computers and printers, and maintaining all of the technology in the building. I have been impressed with how well Steve can handle his many responsibilities as well as teach classes in technology.

Mostafa Khalifa
Assistant Manager, Rutgers University Office of Information Technology

Steve Kinney was a pleasure to work with during his time as an Assistant Lab Supervisor at the College Avenue Computer Labs at Rutgers University. He interacted well with student consultants, fellow supervisors on College Avenue and other campuses, lab patrons (students, faculty and staff) and his management. He showed great concern for the direction and well being of the organization, and clearly pointed out areas of improvement, with steps to address any issues. He was a motivated, dedicated member of our staff during his time with us.

Leroy Wilkins
Manager, Rutgers University Office of Information Technology

As a supervisor, Steve was very proactive about tackling problems and issues. He aggressively worked to resolve issues and address them in such a way that the same issue would not be repeated. He took time to get to know and mentor his subordinates thus providing him an opportunity to hear honest feedback from them and to provide constructive feedback to them. I could always count on Steve to provide honest and direct feedback on pertinent issues as well as possible solutions to problems which needed to be addressed. Steve was a very independent, intelligent, creative and hardworking individual and it was a pleasure working with him.

The capacity to teach others to lead is what really makes a leader who he is. I had the pleasure of working with Steve Kinney at the OIT Lab’s at Rutgers University. I had moved up through the ranks quickly through Steve’s efforts of mentoring me to become a supervisor. He was always upbeat yet professional with fellow co- workers, consultants, and patrons. Steve has the technical knowledge along with excellent leadership qualities to make him successful at whatever he wants to accomplish. I know Steve always goes “above and beyond” what is required and will be a great asset to any organization.

Spring 2005 College Avenue Supervisor Achievement Award

Steve has been one of the driving forces within the College Avenue management staff this semester. He has demonstrated great ability to get tasks completed as well as motivate others. He coordinated the hiring effort for College Ave this semester helping to ensure that we hired the best and the brightest. He agreed to switch around his schedule from primarily evening to morning shifts to help us fill needed openings in our schedule. He also did an excellent job maintaining the consultant shift schedules, working in conjunction with the other supervisors to ensure all shift were covered. Steve also maintained the staff machines ensuring they complied with CCF policies. Steve has been an indispensable member of our staff and it gives us great pleasure to name him our Supervisor of the Semester.

Spring 2004 College Avenue Consultant Achievement Award

Steve Kinney is by far one of the best consultants we’ve had all year at College Avenue. Steve has been the “go-to” consultant all semester. He has often stopped by to work between classes just to cover part of a shift, or to take supplies to another lab. Steve is cheerful, and fun to work with — making the lab environment warm and welcoming to users and co-workers alike. He has helped out by taking emergency coverage, but also distinguishes himself in working with management by taking the initiative to find people to cover open shifts during the times he’s working and by working on special projects around the lab. Steve is always on top of things, enforcing policies, answering all questions and assisting users, coworkers and supervisors whenever the need arises. More than any other consultant this semester, Steve has gone the extra mile (or five) to ensure the smooth operation of the lab. Steve has made the biggest impact on the labs this semester, becoming a necessary part in the well-oiled machine that is the College Avenue Campus.

October 2003 College Avenue Consultant of the Month

Steve has taken coverage at just about any time the lab needed help. He has also proven to be very active while consulting, often doing rounds at less than 15 minute intervals. He is always on the ball, aware of what is going on in the lab, making sure that stats are taken, paper filled, and that policies are enforced. Since he started working for CCF at the beginning of the semester, Steve has made a difference, with his positive and proactive attitude and his desire to help out the labs and fellow coworkers.
